This is the go-to place for live rock and underground music in Charleston. Located in a funky house in the historically diverse area of Charleston’s East End, The Empty Glass has hosted some of the area’s favorite local and international legends, like Joss Stone, Drive By Truckers and Donna The Buffalo. They’ve also got a menu of tasty bar food to satisfy your hunger with pizzas, wings, corn dogs, and poppers. The generous beer selection includes just about any brew you can imagine. Stop by on Wednesday Wing Night for specials on buckets of beer and tasty chicken. Bring your guitar for Monday’s Open Mike Night or stop by for the party on Sunday night after the Mountain Stage broadcast. The Empty Glass hosts live music seven nights a week.

Is there anything better than watching a kid explore a science museum? Watching hands-on play spark ideas in kids’ heads is not only great for them, but also fun to watch. Charleston’s Avampato Discovery Museum is one of the best in the area. Located in the Clay Center, the museum sports a wide range of activities covering almost all of the sciences, from electricity and engineering to light and physics. All of them offer hands-on activities for kids of all ages to explore and play. This is truly a great destination for families of just about any makeup—everyone will find something to spark their interest. The third floor of the museum plays host to a number of rotating art exhibits to stimulate the other half of the brain as well. An attached planetarium showcases a number of daily shows where kids and adults can stargaze and be mesmerized by the world above and beyond.
